Walk With Me in the Texas countryside. Steve Martin

A windy but vitalizing walk in the countryside just south of Abilene, Texas.
Come on! Walk with me!

“Stories People Share” - Steve Martin

Stories People Share
As I continued on our ministry tour across Texas with Christian Friends of Israel Jerusalem, with six in the van ranging from 37 years to 84 (three men and three women), I am amazed at the stories people tell me at each stop.
My tasks on this trip include driving the vast miles, overseeing the book table, and leading worship as called upon. But it also is giving a listening ear to the people who love to share their stories with me. (Especially the ladies, who we all know tend to speak with more words than us regular guys. Just sayin’.)
In Abilene, Texas, home of the Camp Barkeley Fellowship, the worship leader came to the book table and began telling me of her 25-year old Texas A&M daughter befriending a similar age Israeli man at college. He was on the soccer team.
Being the girl was a music major and loved to write songs, even in other languages, this young man helped her write a song in Hebrew and learn correctly how to pronounce the words as she would sing it.
This song became her “ending song” for her concerts.
The Jew said he was not”religious” but often in his encouraging words to her he unknowing quoted Scripture. She would then tell him that. (Someday he too will believe in the same Messiah.)
I love how the Lord Yeshua (Jesus) connects people. One New Man is what He is making us to be.
“The Messiah has made things up between us so that we’re now together on this, both non-Jewish outsiders and Jewish insiders. He tore down the wall we used to keep each other at a distance. He repealed the law code that had become so clogged with fine print and footnotes that it hindered more than it helped. Then he started over. Instead of continuing with two groups of people separated by centuries of animosity and suspicion, he created a new kind of human being, a fresh start for everybody.” Ephesians 2:15, The Message

“An Angel…or More Proof of God’s Love” by Steve Martin
An Angel…or More Proof of God’s Love
Yesterday after we got home from the Jon Reddick concert, around 7:30pm a knock came at the door. Before I answered it, I looked out the door window (as I normally do in case I don’t want to open it) but this young man standing there saw me. So I opened the door.
He had a Bible in his hand. I thought, “Mormon” but there was not another. (They go out in twos.)
He told me his name, complimented me on the small 12” x 24” flag we have hanging on the porch by the door (“As for me and my house…” which also has our family name), and then without further words or hesitation opened his Bible and started reading from Matthew 6:25-34, the passage of the Lord Jesus speaking about worry and His provision for us.
I wasn’t quite sure where this was going, but he continued reading, looking at me occasionally.
When he finished ready the lengthy passage, he asked if I had any worries. I told him of my upcoming month ministry trip to Texas June 1, my broken shoulder and a few other concerns.
He then asked if he could pray for me. I said, “Yes.”
He took my hand and prayed a very good prayer. Then he looked up and said he liked our home and our faith.
Before he walked away, I asked him if he liked to read. He said, “Well, the Bible.” So I took that as a “yes” and gave him two of my books, “Back To Jerusalem” and “Morning Place To Be”.
And then he walked away.
Laurie, sitting in the other room, heard it all.
To myself I said, “Was that an angel?!” And thanked the Lord for this young man.
Thank You, Lord. You know all our concerns and do whatever it takes to show Your love for us.
True story.

“Silence the Noise” by Jorge Parrott

“God’s willingness is not in question. Your ability to receive is. You can be surrounded by opportunity and still miss it - not because you are unworthy, but because you are closed off inside.
Receiving demands an open posture. The gate is yours to open. The time to act is now.”

We Need Others by Steve Martin
We Need Others
Men need friendships. For far too long we have been made to think that we can do all on our own. To be the one who can fix anything with no help from others.
I used to think that.
My wife and I needed more space for our growing family with four kids. We decided to add more footage to our East Lansing, Michigan home around 1983. My brother-in-law Bob Smith, a contractor, had a construction crew who did the work.
Before Laurie’s parents were coming from Illinois for a visit, I was saving pallets from my work and then nailing them down as a new floor in the attic, to make more storage space.
My foot missed the flooring joist. It went through the ceiling in the new addition family room below.
I could not fix that. And the Lord clearly spoke to me, “You cannot do all things by yourself. You need others.”
“And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; or again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” 1 Corinthian 12.21, NASB
I got the help I needed to repair that new ceiling. I am thankful for those who have skills that we do not process.
We need others. We cannot walk alone.

NASCAR driver Kyle Busch. Dead at 41 unexpectantly.

Kyle Busch, now a true NASCAR legend.

For many men, sports is a way to be competitive, to be in a team with others striving for victory, to challenge yourself and others to reach the top.
I am a NASCAR(auto racing) fan. I have been since 1994 when I went to my first race in Charlotte, North Carolina. Jeff Gordon, #24 driver for Hendricks Motor Sports, was my man.
I also liked Kyle Busch. Yes, he was sassy and all, and disliked by many, but he pushed himself and others competitively to win. And he did 63 times in the top tier alone, in addition to the next level and truck series (having the most wins all-time.)
When he married his wife Samantha, and together raised two kids )son 11 and daughter 4) he matured. No longer the “brat” but more level-headed. And yet he still had that drive to win.
On May 21, 2026, he died at the age of 41 unexpectedly in a hospital, from an illness yet publicized.
I hope Kyle knew the Lord Jesus. I hope to see him in heaven. I hope others will consider where they are at in life, for we never know when this life is over.

Walk on. Complete your destiny and leave a legacy.
Walk On. Fulfill Your Destiny and Leave a Legacy
As I looked at the early morning stars, at least in my hemisphere at that hour, the Spirit of the Lord gave me some inspiration.
I had noticed an image on Facebook of a t-shirt bearing the image of an old(er) man walking onward, with the saying, “Never underestimate a man traveling on in his seventies.”
Simple things like this are used by the Lord in my life to let His gifts flow. And so, from that t-shirt image it resulted in the one included with this message. A man walking on a stone trail towards Jerusalem, pulling a cart with his books. (Which happen to be mine!) Yeah, Lord!
Each of us has been called, given gifts, and asked to take His love to our generation.
Every niche, every facet of life, needs to be touched by the love of Jesus Christ.
We have been saved to fulfill His destiny He has for us, and leave a legacy for the next generation(s) to know and follow.
Be blessed as you too seek Him today. Find and know your destiny. Walk in it. Leave a legacy that glorifies our Lord Jesus.
“We proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, so that we may present every man complete in Christ.” Colossians 1:28, NASB
